After a long break from writing, I'm finally back. There is much to write about, but to keep it short, I'll give you a brief synopsis.
My husband, Bill, has Alzheimer's and is now in a VA Home. These last few years have been the hardest years of my life and continue to be very difficult. The main difference now is I am no longer his primary caregiver. As the disease progressed, I was unable to give him the care he needed by myself. I continue to be his care partner and spend as much time with him as I can. I'll be writing more about this journey in future posts.
We moved to Galveston, Texas, in 2021 (in the middle of COVID), to be near my daughter so that she could help us out during this phase of our lives. She has been a great blessing and I'm so glad to be near her. After Bill moved into the VA home (Jan 2023), I downsized to a one-bedroom apartment on the island in the same complex as my daughter. My son has moved to Austin, Tx, to be closer to us as well. It's so nice to have family nearby.
After moving to the island, I joined a 50+ group in town called OLLI's (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute). They provide classes and activities in a variety of subjects. I'll be telling you more about this wonderful place in future posts. I wasn't able to participate much until this year (between COVID and my caregiving), but it was nice knowing this place was here. It was pretty lonely down here the last few years!
In March and April, I took a class at OLLI's taught by Janet Cohen called, The Power of Writing Practice. This class and the two friends I met, Lori and Debbie, have renewed my interest in writing. Consequently, I decided I needed to start blogging again. In the process, I remembered my blog right here on Blogger. No need to start a new one!
So, here I am, back again, with my dog Oreo, to write about whatever life brings my way. Thank you for being here with me as I begin the next phase of my life.
